Workshop ‘Sidonius Apollinaris for the 21st Century’ (18-01-11)
Het doel van het beoogde project ‘Sidonius Apollinaris for the 21st Century’ is deze lacune te vullen door een gecoördineerde internationale inspanning om binnen tien jaar zo’n commentaar beschikbaar te hebben. De eerste stap is een verkennende workshop die twee doelen heeft:
De workshop wordt gehouden op 26-30 januari 2011 en brengt een aantal specialisten uit binnen- en buitenland bijeen. De bijeenkomst vindt plaats onder auspiciën van het NIAS in Wassenaar. Het Centrum voor Patristisch Onderzoek (VU Amsterdam, Universiteit Tilburg) tekent voor de organisatie, in samenwerking met het Leids Instituut voor Godsdienstwetenschappen en de opleiding GLTC van de Universiteit van Amsterdam. De verantwoordelijkheid voor het inhoudelijke deel ligt bij Dr Joop van Waarden (gastonderzoeker Latijn UvA; lid CPO; e-mail). * * * (ENGLISH). To date there exists only a handful of more or less recent commentaries on some of the occasional poems and on some books of the correspondence of Sidonius Apollinaris - and not all of them published. Whereas Sidonius has been enjoying a modest but stimulating revival over the last decades, we still lack the basic tool of a modern commentary on much of his oeuvre. The purpose of the envisaged project ‘Sidonius Apollinaris for the 21st Century’ is to fill this gap by means of a coordinated international effort to have his entire oeuvre commented within ten years. The first step is an exploratory workshop whose aim is twofold:
The workshop will be held on 26-30 January 2011 and brings together a number of specialists from the Netherlands as well as from abroad. It is funded and hosted by NIAS at Wassenaar. The Centre for Patristic Studies (VU University, University ofTilburg) is responsible for the organization, in collaboration with the Institute for Religious Studies of the University of Leiden and the Department of Greek and Latin Language and Culture of the University of Amsterdam. The responsibility for the scientific component is in the hands of Dr Joop van Waarden (guest researcher UvA; member CPS; e-mail). Op dit moment bestaan er slechts een handvol min of meer recente commentaren op enkele van de gelegenheidsgedichten en een paar boeken van de correspondentie van Sidonius Apollinaris, die bovendien niet allemaal bij een uitgever verschenen zijn. Hoewel Sidonius de laatste decennia met de herwaardering van de late oudheid een bescheiden revival heeft beleefd, ontbreekt nog steeds het basisgereedschap van een eigentijds commentaar op een groot deel van zijn oeuvre.
